Can’t decide which dessert to make for Thanksgiving? Or perhaps you’ll be too busy with the turkey and making a dessert would require four extra hands?

Well, relax, because our chef Sophia has several great Thanksgiving recipes that your children can whip up in no time! That’s right! This year, hand the mixing bowls and spoons to the kids, sit back, and enjoy! In this article, she agreed to share two: no bake express pumpkin pie and sweet potato muffins.

NO BAKE EXPRESS PUMPKIN PIE

Can’t find the time to make pumpkin pie from scratch? With this recipe, you just whip and serve!

INGREDIENTS

1 1/4 cup milk

2 small Cook & Serve vanilla pudding packets

1 cup unsweetened pumpkin filling

1 cup Cool Whip

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon allspice

1 ready-made Graham cracker pie crust

DIRECTIONS

1) In a small pot, mix together only 1 cup of the milk, pumpkin filling, and Cool Whip. Let it simmer over medium low heat.

2) In a small mixing bowl, mix together remaining ¼ cup of milk, along with the pudding packets. Add to the simmering mixture. Stir continuously until the mixture thickens, about 5 minutes.

3) Pour thickened pumpkin filling into the prepared crust. Let cool to set. Serve with a dollop of Whipped cream and a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

SWEET POTATO MUFFINS

These sweet treats are packed full of vitamins and fiber!

INGREDIENTS

3 medium sweet potatoes

3/4 stick unsalted margarine, cut into pieces

2 tablespoons brown sugar

2 tablespoons white sugar

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

DIRECTIONS

1) Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Grease a small muffin tin.

2) Puncture a few holes into the sweet potatoes and microwave until tender, about 10 minutes. With care, scoop cooked potato out of the skin, and transfer to a mixing bowl. Add margarine and mix with an electric mixer until well combined. Beat in sugar and spices, and let cool for 10-15 minutes.

3) Mix flour and baking powder together in a small bowl. Add to the potato mixture and mix well with a fork. Near the end, you may need to knead the batter by hand.

4) Fill each muffin tin cup with the batter. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.

Parents want their children to have the best educational resources available. When it comes to piano lessons, however, many parents who don’t play aren’t aware of resources available for home use. Parent’s who do play the piano, however, are more likely to purchase piano materials for home use in addition to their child’s piano lesson assignments. This gives young kids an additional learning boost at home. If you don’t play the piano, or if you are a home-school parent, and want to give your children a musical foundation at home, don’t be deterred. Below are 3 Keys for helping your children get a good musical foundation at home that are as easy to use as following a recipe.

1. Look for resources that teach the basic ingredients of piano theory. Ignore unrealistic promises that avoid teaching children the basics they need for a solid musical foundation with “solutions” such as playing by colors or numbering the piano keys with stickers. Young children need to know their colors and their numbers to learn to play the piano, but not for this reason. Don’t underestimate your child’s intelligence. Avoid resources for home use with fantastical promises that substitute knowledge your children already have instead of teaching valuable, new skills.

2. Look for resources you can use at home as a prequel to enrolling your children in piano lessons or in conjunction with this. Giving your child a musical foundation at home is no different than teaching your children to read at home. Your children will need pre-skills and then foundational knowledge that builds on these skills. You taught your child the alphabet and their numbers and started teaching them how to read, and then you sent them off to school to learn even more. You can do the same thing in piano because music theory language is easy to see and hear on the piano keyboard. Since children absorb language so quickly, giving your child a musical foundation at home when they are young will support other learning processes and improve their overall educational progress.

3. Make your values clear to your children by purchasing a keyboard or piano for your home. Musical values are learned just like other good values you share with your children. Having a piano in your home when your children are young sends a powerful message that has a powerful affect. Children with this advantage grow feeling that “piano is part of our home.”

Add these simple ingredients to your child’s piano experience and you’ll have a recipe for improving your child’s musical success.
Here they learn what piano lessons are all about in a fun way that kids readily understand and appreciate!
My 1 year old has turned into a picky eater…. but a funny one!?

It's funny. She's been a FEROCIOUS eater from day one. Now, she won't eat anything that feels “funny” on her hands. I gave her a piece of sliced turkey…. it stuck to her hands and she wanted NOTHING to do with it. She just kept shaking her hands trying to get it off. She won't eat macaroni and cheese or noodles or rice…. because they all feel funny on her hands. She just shakes them off and pushes the food away.

Did your child do that? Did you think it was funny? How long did it last? Thanks!

Ok so 3 more posts today that I’ve dug up – I’m an information JUNKIE on this stuff lately. Give em a browse and let me know what ya reckon. They’re just from a few different sites I’ve been surfing lately that are generally good for information like this…

need recipes – Children with Diabetes Forums

I would love for any recipes you would be willing to share. Anything and everything would be appreciated. (and even better if they include carb counts) I would also love substiutions you use and other baking/cooking tips. …

Give ‘Em Some Baking Love – Dreena Burton – Vegan Soccer Mom …

This recipe is wheat-free in addition to being dairy and egg-free. The gingerbread aren’t overly ‘spicy’, so children will love them as much as adults. For other cookie options, try these other simple recipes. With all of these gifts, …

VILLAGERS are hoping they have the recipe to create a top new play area for their community.

Hope you enjoy the read as much as I did and please if you have something to say, use the comments form below to let everyone know your thoughts.

Have a great day!

Raising vegetarian children can be really challenging. You’re constantly finding substitutes for the dairy and protein groups. If you’re up to the challenge, and you think it’s best for your child, then do so. If you’re a mom who just wants to get your child eating more vegetables, then try any of these vegetarian kids recipes. They’re yummy, easy, and really healthy!

Vegetable Curry

Use eggplant, zucchini, potatoes, carrots, and squash. Chop these up into bite sized pieces and cook in some curry paste and coconut milk. It’s healthy, nutritious, and will get your kids used to spices. Start with a mild curry, and you can make it spicier as they get older. This is also a good chance to introduce them to Indian and Thai cuisine.

Spinach Ravioli

You can buy pre-made spinach ravioli or make the little pasta squares yourself. These are really fun to eat, and you can negotiate with younger picky children about how many squares should be eaten. You can also fill the ravioli with cheese or mushrooms. Top it off with a thick tomato sauce and some Parmesan cheese. This is a great way to sneak spinach into your child’s diet. Most children don’t appreciate spinach till their much older. Use these little squares to get them used to the taste!

White Bean Soup with Potatoes

This is an easy soup to make. Just chop some onions, tomatoes, potatoes, throw in some spices, some white beans and cover everything with water. You can use a large pot or a slow cooker. This dish is going to take a while to cook! Give it about two or three hours for ready to cook beans, and up to five hours for beans that you had to soak overnight. Beans are filled with protein, and this is a great substitute for children who are fussy about eating meat. The beans are soft and are much easier to chew that poultry or meats.

Vegetable Quesadillas

A really quick and easy recipe to make. Use two pieces of whole wheat tortilla and fill it with cheese and red and green bell peppers. You can toast this in the toaster till the cheese melts and glues it all together. Serve it with a home made salsa of chopped onions, chopped tomatoes, and chopped cilantro. Drizzle some sour cream on top and it’s ready to serve! This dish is great for kids because it’s colorful and tasty. It makes a great snack or a great side dish to a main course.

Grilled Vegetable Sandwich

Marinate some eggplant, zucchini, tomatoes, onions, and bell peppers in olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt, and pepper. Grill these on a gas grill, coal grill, or grill pan. Once the vegetables are soft, put it on some toasted whole wheat bread or some toasted herb bread. It’s tasty, healthy, and your kids will love it! This makes for a great lunch. You can serve it with some home made French fries or oven baked potato chips.

Child friendly recipes are fun to create. What makes a child friend recipe? A recipe that incorporates fun and good foods. Fruits and vegetables are favorite ingredients in child friendly recipes. Using these fresh ingredients provide vibrant colors that are appealing to children while also providing a nutritious meal.

Fruit can be cut into small sizes so a toddler can experience the texture as well as the taste of these healthy food group. Fruits or vegetables make excellent finger foods and can be easily added to fun recipes that children love. This fun “fruit pizza” is an example of a food project that allows children to select fruits in different colors and create a healthy snack while having fun creating fun faces.

Allow children to choose colorful fruits at the store or farmers’ market. Turn the kids loose in the kitchen creating imaginative faces on this delicious fruit pizza. Odds are, they will snack as they create–and like what they taste.

Child Friendly Fruit Pizza

*Graham cracker piecrust

Filling for pie:

*1 tablespoon sugar

*1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

*1/4 teaspoon lemon juice

*1 tablespoon 1% milk

Toppings:

Suggestions for fruit pizza faces:

*Strawberries for the nose

*Kiwi fruit or seedless grapes for the eyes

*A banana for the mouth

The choices for making the face are only limited by their imaginations. The kids can choose pineapples, mandarin orange, grapes or any fruit they like.

Instructions:

To Prepare the Filling:

1. Whisk together cream cheese, sugar, vanilla extract, and lemon juice.

2. Add just enough milk to the mix to make it spreadable onto the crust.

3. Spread the cream-cheese mixture with a rubber spatula.

4. Spread to the edge of the crust.

Now its time for the kids to get involved.

*Allow the kids to arrange the fruit onto the cream cheese mixture.

*Don’t worry if it is not perfect. It is perfectly nutritious and fun.

*Children may want to add sprinkles or chocolate chips. Let their imaginations run wild.

*Refrigerate the pizza for at least 1 hour.

*Slice with a sharp knife and serve.

The kids will be impatient and want to eat the pizza right away. This pizza cream cheese mixture is almost set but will cut easier if refrigerated for at least 1 hour. Let the kids help you with the cleanup. They will be anxious to taste their creation.

I hope you’ve been enjoying my posts lately. I thought I might do something different today and rustle up a few bits of info from around the WWW. These are some of the news items and blog posts that have been popular over the last few weeks. Leave me your thoughts.

Bonggamom Finds: Tiana’s Cookbook: Recipes for Kids

Tiana’s Cookbook: Recipes for Kids offers great Bayou-inspired dishes like those Princess Tiana would prepare. The recipes are rated on a five-frog scale in terms of difficulty so you can select the one that works best for your children …

Over the past few months I have had a lot people leave comments on my blog asking me to send them my recipes, especially for the giant cupcake (even though the tin comes with a recipe). This has been a tough one for me. …

Hope you enjoy the read as much as I did and please if you have something to say, use the comments form below to let everyone know your thoughts.

Healthy Family Recipes can be exciting and fun for all the family to get involved in. Just because you have decided to eat more healthily, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you are on a diet, or that you are automatically forbidden from eating certain foods. Maybe you are starting to exercise more, and want to make the most of your gym membership, or football practice, by eating healthier.

Eating healthily is important, especially for children. Starting off the day with the right sort of breakfast, such as cereal, or toast is much better for you and your children than crisps or chocolate. By making sure that you and your children have a good breakfast you can be sure that they have the foundations for a good day at school, and you can have a productive day at work. A healthy lunch will make sure that your children have enough energy to play in the playground, and to concentrate in lessons all afternoon, and that you’ll not feel sleepy and lethargic in the afternoon either.

Healthy Family Recipes might just involve modifying some of your existing family favourites to make them healthier. You might want to change some of the ingredients slightly, or cook them in a different way.

Perhaps you’ve never really been keen on fresh fruit and vegetables. By preparing them yourself and eating them in family meals, you might find some that you really like, that you’d never tried before.

By ensuring that you and your family eat the recommended 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day, you will encourage your children the importance of eating healthily.

Although processed food and ready meals may be more convenient, there are plenty of healthy family recipes that don’t take long to prepare and cook. There will be some recipes that your children can get involved in, and so they will have a greater understanding of what goes into meals. You and your children will also enjoy cooking from scratch, rather than just opening a packet, or putting a ready meal in the microwave. Also, being able to cook is a great skill.

By organising your meals in advance, before you go shopping, you can make sure that you have the right ingredients in, and can get things ready the night before, so that you have less to do when you come in from work. This method can also save you money as you won’t need to buy additional ingredients at the last minute.

Eating healthily isn’t all about muesli and salads. By making a few changes to your existing recipes, or trying some new foods and recipes, you can be sure that you are helping to improve your family’s health. See what exciting healthy family recipes you can find.

Children love to cook just a much as grown-ups do, especially when there’s sweets, chocolate, and other fun ingredients involved. Here are some of the most popular children’s cake recipes – sure to be a big hit amongst your little cooks!

1. Critter Shaped Cakes

This is a very basic cake, with a very amusing twist. First, let the kids decide which animal they’d like to make. An animal with easy recognisable shapes, like a koala for instance, works best. Use any instant cake mix and bake a simple sheet cake. Next, cut out the simplified animal shapes individually and arrange on a larger dish. Then comes the fun part, decorating your cake! Children can use gum drop candies for eyes and noses, licorice for whiskers, and sprinkles and colored icing to resemble the animal’s fur.

2. Mucky Mud Pies with Juicy Worms

This is a classic recipe with a few fun additions that your kids will love. This cake features a crumbly chocolate crust layered with more rich chocolate sauce, nuts, ice cream, and gummy worms for that authentic muddy feel. Start with the chocolate crust at the bottom of your dish. Then instead of neatly layering in the other ingredients let kids dump them in however they choose. Chocolate sauce mixed in with nuts and ice cream and topped with colorful gummy worms is sure to please every time.

3. Scrumptious Butterscotch Haystacks

Butterscotch Haystacks are so fun and easy to make, and only require a few ingredients. You’ll need butterscotch morsels, creamy peanut butter, miniature marshmallows, and chow mein noodles. Simply melt down the butterscotch in a microwave and stir in the peanut butter until blended completely. Add in the marshmallows and chow mein noodles, stirring gently as to not break the noodles. On a wax or freezer paper lined sheet pan, arrange the mixture into little haystacks and refrigerate, then serve.

4. Lollie Brownie Cakes

This cake is made just like brownies, except on a larger scale. Just bake up some brownies, throwing in any nuts you wish. Let kids select the miniature chocolate bars and simply melt them down in a microwave. Drizzle over your brownie cake, and top with bits of remaining miniature chocolate bars. This recipe also works on a smaller scale, which is great for parties as each child can create their own custom cake using mini chocolate bars of their choice

5. Sweet Desert Pizza!

For a sweet but healthy children’s cake try Dessert Pizza. This recipe calls for sugar cookie dough crust, fresh fruits, and softened cream cheese. Bake up your cookie dough in a circular pizza pan. Mix up the cream cheese with some confectioner’s sugar, and then spread the mixture onto your “pizza pie.” Kids have a blast decorating this cake like a real pizza. Select fresh fruits like pineapples, oranges, peach slices, blueberries, raspberries, and strawberry halves. Slice the cake into wedges and serve.

So there you have it, 5 mucky cake recipes especially for kiddies. Before you start baking, build a list of cake baking products you will need and finally when you start cooking be sure to use cover up anything that could be ruined by cake mixtures and floor, oh and don’t forget to take pictures of your little terrors when they are at their messy peak!

As a mother, apart from writing, I love to spend time with my children and I can think of nothing better than getting stuck-in to a spot of messy cake making, here are my tips on how to you can get stuck-in too!

Is this a phase or will she always be a picky eater?

My daughter is 16 months old today. She's had a cold for a while so I don't know if that could be the reason as to why she's being such a picky eater, but she will not eat anything really. Things she used to love she turns down now. I ask her if she's hungry and she nods yes and runs to her highchair, but won't eat anything I put in front of her. The only things she'll eat are these fruit strips (from the fruit section of the grocery store..)baby applesauce, and occasionally baby oatmeal, but she won't finish it all. I can't get her to eat anything nor can I get her to drink anything from her sippy cup which she usually chugs (no matter what's in it). Could it be because she's sick? Or is she just going to be a picky eater? She has always been somewhat of a picky eater but would eat the majority of things I'd put in front of her..

I'm worried about her not getting enough liquids, as she only has like 2 wet diapers a day and barely pees at night, when usually it's super heavy in the morning.

Any tricks to get her to drink some more water or liquids? And do any of you have picky eaters, what did you find they would eat?

Chances are, if you continue presenting those “problem foods” to your child, he or she will eventually come around and may even begin to enjoy them. If you are a picky eater, now might be a great time to start tasting those healthy …

Dealing in Subterfuges: Top Chef: Congratumalations, Michael …

Michael is doing a broccoli puree because he hated vegetables as a child. We see lots of adorable little Voltaggio pictures. And then my ovaries explode, and I have to patch myself back together before I finish writing. … And Michael has made a Cream of Dehydrated Broccoli, Fried Broccoli and Spot Prawn, which he prefaces with a long story about what a picky eater he was and how his mom once gave him a trophy for eating his vegetables for a month.
while toddlers are known to be picky eaters having favorite foods, it is not common for children to decrease the selection of foods they will eat to 5 items … read more… that’s all the news for today guys, so until next time, …

Hope you enjoy the read as much as I did and please if you have something to say, use the comments form below to let everyone know your thoughts.

Have a great day!

Vegetables are a great way to provide the necessary vitamins and minerals to your family. However, how many times have you told your children to eat their vegetables? Probably a lot.

For some reason, children have an aversion to vegetables. They will cry and sit for hours before you finally give in and send them from the table.

Vegetables do not always have to be the enemy. The key is to find a creative way to prepare them and your family will become vegetable lovers rather than vegetable haters!

Do you remember when you were a child and your mother dropped a soggy green lump of cabbage on your plate. Did you want to eat it? Almost certainly not.

There are various ways to encourage your children to eat their vegetables. You might even need to trick them! Broccoli is an example of a vegetable, which is high in vitamin and mineral content, and there are plenty of ways to prepare it. Here are some tips:

Try it raw. Leave a plate of raw broccoli in bite-size pieces in the refrigerator for your children as a snack. Offer some salad dressing so they can dip it and this is often a hit. Leave the tips of the broccoli on the plate and encourage your child to eat them. You can even make a creative game of this. Grilled vegetable recipes are not the only way to serve healthy vegetables.

If all else fails, bribery often works. Tell your child that they will get a special treat if they finish their vegetables. Make sure you have a treat for them afterwards.

Use cheese. Cheese and broccoli go very well together. If you pour a cheese sauce over the broccoli, you are adding texture and changing the flavor. You might find your children eat the broccoli in cheese before whatever else you have served with it.

Lasagna is delicious with broccoli added. Smothering it in cheese can add to the flavor and disguise the broccoli. Children will be too busy enjoying the cheesy flavor to bother picking out the bits of broccoli. Vegetable pizza is another way of sneaking in broccoli. Nearly all kids love pizza so a healthy vegetable pizza recipe will produce something they associate with fun rather than veggies.

Chop it up – if all else fails, pre cook the broccoli and let it cool a little and put it in a food processor. Chop it up until it is not recognizable and add it to whatever dish you are cooking. Your children will not even know it is there.

Shakes – this might sound weird but it works. Make a milkshake with milk, ice cream, and chocolate syrup. Add some broccoli to the shake (make sure the kids aren’t watching!) and blend it some more. As long as you use a chunky type of ice cream, your kids will not realize the broccoli is there and hopefully they will drink the shake too fast to notice any stray green bits!

Vegetables are high in essential nutrients, especially for growing kids, so it is great that there are so many ways to get them to eat their veggies!

Believe vegetable pizza recipe have to be difficult then you need to have some fresh off the barbecue grill! While your at it why not have some of our barbecue grilled vegetable recipes.

You can often find me in the kitchen cooking it is a true love of mine and I love experimenting with new and wonderful taste. I like to share these with visitors to my wife’s websites on cooking. Why not try one of their recipes like Baked Dijon Salmon just one of the recipes we like sharing with our four young sons.
